Once again we will offer the ACT test during the school day for high school juniors.  The test will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.  Earlier this week a letter with sign up sheet was handed out in the 11th grade World History classes regarding the ACT test.  In addition, the same letter was mailed home to all juniors.  If you need a copy of the letter with the sign up sheet, it is located here.  If there are any questions, please contact myself or Mr. Anderson.

Requesting HS transcripts: Here are the steps to requesting a high school transcript (if you haven't already set up an account with Parchment - the electronic delivery service we use to send the transcripts).
1) Student logs into their school email
2) Once logged in, click on "More" on the left side near Inbox
3) Click on Spam
4) Find a message from Parchment - should be from October 4
5) Click on "Display Images Below"
6) Scroll down in the message and click on the green bar
7) Follow the steps to finish setting up the account and requesting the transcript

Free application week!: Next week is the week where a student can apply to all state colleges (click here for the list) for FREE! If you need help on applying to college, I will be holding a meeting in the library computer lab before school next Tuesday, Oct. 24 (starting right at 7:40) and after school (starting right at 3:00).  I will help you go step by step through the application and assist you in requesting your high school transcript.  If you need help with the application - this is for you!  Please attempt to be at one of the sessions and be on time as it will be a step by step presentation and coming late will cause some confusion.

As always, contact me with any questions!

Financial Aid - Information

If you are a senior or the parent of a senior you are likely hearing about FAFSA and that starting October 1st (yesterday) you could start filling out and submitting the FAFSA.  I want to remind you that even though the FAFSA opens on October 1st that's just the earliest you can complete it. It's not a deadline. Usually if you haven't done it by February then it's getting a little late. Most colleges won't start giving awards out for financial aid until March. However they may start giving you a preliminary idea of what you'll receive before then. Again, please don't feel pressure to have it done right away this first week of October.

Your first step with the FAFSA is to create an FSA ID. The student needs one and one parent needs one before you can do the FAFSA. This is your electronic way to sign your FAFSA.

To create an FSA ID, go to www.fsaid.ed.gov to create the ID.

Once that is done you should complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov

Options for help in completing the FAFSA (these events are open to any students regardless of where they are attending college):

At Melrose High School:
We are having a night to complete the FAFSA on November 9 at the HS from 5:30-7:30 pm. A financial aid person from an area college will be here to help people complete it. More information about this will be mailed home to seniors in the next two weeks.

At College of St. Benedict/St. John's University:
The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University financial aid office is hosting a FAFSA-completion event on Monday, October 23 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Saint John’s University Alcuin Library.  Please RSVP using the link below as you will sign up for a one-hour time slot.

At St. Cloud State University:
Minnesota College Goal is a statewide program that provides FREE assistance to students and their families in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can also register to win a $500 educational awardto be used at the higher ed institution of their choice! This event is free and all who plan to attend any college next year are welcome.

Minnesota College Goal events will take place at St Cloud State University in James W. Miller Center Learning Resources Center on the following dates:
